Vortex pairs in charged fluids.

چکیده
The motion of a vortex-(anti)vortex pair is studied numerically in the framework of a dynamical Ginzburg-Landau model, relevant to the description of a superconductor or of an idealized bosonic plasma. It is shown that up to a fine ”cyclotron” internal motion, also studied in detail, two vortices brought together, rotate around each other, while a vortex and an antivortex move in formation parallel to each other. The velocities of the vortices in both cases are measured to be in remarkable agreement with recent theoretical predictions, down to intervortex distances as small as their characteristic diameter. 1 email: [email protected] 2 email: [email protected]

Dissociation dynamics of singly charged vortices into half-quantum vortex pairs.
The quest for identification and understanding of fractional vorticity is a major subject of research in the quantum fluids domain, ranging from superconductors, superfluid Helium-3 to cold atoms. In a two-dimensional Bose degenerate gas with a spin degree of freedom, the fundamental topological excitations are fractional vortical entities, called half-quantum vortices. Convincing evidence for ...
متن کاملMicroscopic model for d-wave charge-carrier pairing and non-Fermi-liquid behavior in a purely repulsive two-dimensional electron system
We investigate a microscopic model for strongly correlated electrons with both on-site and nearest-neighbor Coulomb repulsion on a two-dimensional ~2D! square lattice. This exhibits a state in which electrons undergo a ‘‘somersault’’ in their internal spin space ~spin flux! as they traverse a closed loop in external coordinate space. When this spin1 2 antiferromagnetic ~AFM! insulator is doped,...
متن کاملGeneration of multiple-charged optical vortex solitons in a saturable nonlinear medium.
Multiply charged optical vortex solitons (OVS) (m=1,...,4) are generated in a thermal nonlinear medium with saturation. The respective soliton constants are found to be linearly proportional to the topological charges. Special attention is paid to the modulational instability, which is effectively suppressed by a moderate saturation but still remains an increasing function of the topological ch...
متن کاملModulational instability of multiple-charged optical vortex solitons under saturation of the nonlinearity.
We present a linear analysis and numerical simulations of the instability of optical vortex solitons (OVSs) of arbitrary topological charge. They show a rich variety of instability scenarios depending on the type of perturbation. The saturation of the nonlinearity is shown to be able to slow down the decay of multiple charged dark beams at an intermediate evolution stage and to prevent their ul...
متن کاملObservation of vortex dipoles in an oblate Bose-Einstein condensate.
We report experimental observations and numerical simulations of the formation, dynamics, and lifetimes of single and multiply charged quantized vortex dipoles in highly oblate dilute-gas Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs). We nucleate pairs of vortices of opposite charge (vortex dipoles) by forcing superfluid flow around a repulsive Gaussian obstacle within the BEC. By controlling the flow veloc...
